RICH

I hit a bit of a dilemma today when I realized that my car was out of gas. Pretty much empty. But my next paycheck isn't until Tuesday. And I have an injured knee that I'm not supposed to be doing things like walking 20 miles or riding my bike...

What to do, what to do. How will I get to work? Will I have to arrange rides all weekend? After spending the last 6 weeks having to deal with this while my car was in the shop, I really don't want to deal with it again.

Through the complaining rattling around in my brain, I reminded myself that just because I'm not a rich person financially, I'm RICH in so many other ways that make up for it.

RICH with a cool God
RICH with real relationships
RICH with imagination & opportunities
RICH with an apartment that has extra special things like cushy pillows, pretty candles, and an awesome shower curtain

Then my eyes landed on a jar sitting on a shelf in my room. A jar spiffed up with a bow that I threw all my extra coins in. Not a big jar, but maybe enough to get a few dollars worth of gas! So I grabbed my jar full of coins and drove a couple blocks down the road to my local grocery store. I've seen a coin counter machine there and always thought it looked fun to use. There were often kids with their piggy banks crowded around and it gave me a whimsical feel. So I poured my meager collection of coins in, thinking it would only amount to 5 or 6 dollars....but it came to $19.26!!! Wow! I was so excited! But the downside of this coin counter was that it wanted to charge a service fee for giving the cash voucher. Bummer. I didn't want to lose a whole $2. So I rejected the transaction, gathered all my coins back up and walked outside, over to the grocery gas station.

I walked up to the outdoor pay counter and dumped my jar in front of the cashier.

"I want to put $19.26 on pump number 3!"

I expected a protest, but the twinkly-eyed elderly man just winked at me and exclaimed, "Wow dollface! That there's a lotta' chang-a-lang! Where'ya drivin' to? China?!"

I grinned at him. He grinned at me. And we spent the next 10 minutes counting out all the pennies, nickles, dimes, and quarters. I filled my gas tank almost half full and went home to put my empty jar back on the shelf to collect for the next money dilemma.

What a RICH experience!
